More about Dr. Udo Meyer

In 1986 Udo completed his degree in chemistry and graduated as Doctor of Philosophy in 1988 from Bielefeld University. He spent his post-doctorate study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, United States of America.

With regard to his professional qualifications he successfully completed a further training as European Patent Attorney and German Patent Attorney in 1995 respectively 2001.

Udo started his career as a research scientist (inorganic chemistry) at BASF SE in 1989. 1991 he moved to BASF’s IP department, named Global Intellectual Property, and ad- vanced as Head of “Polyurethanes and Styrenics” IP group in 1996. In 2001 he changed as Head of the IP group “intermediates, petrochemicals and engineering technology” and was also in charge of Inventors’ Remuneration for BASF Group until 1996. Since 2008 he is Head of the Global Intellectual Property Department of BASF SE.

In addition he accompanies in different memberships, that is President of VPP (German Association of Patent Attorney), Member of the Executive Committee of GRUR (German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property), Head of IP group of German Association of Chemical Industry (VCI), Head of IP group of German Association of Industry (BDI) and Member of IP group of Business Europe.

Ralf joined Daimler AG in 1987 after studying mechanical engineering at Karlsruhe Technical University and business sciences at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. At Daimler, Ralf worked in various departments, including production planning, project management, controlling, assistance, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing, process design, documentation and logistics. In his last assignment, he was responsible for the Connected Car and User Interaction for all model lines of Mercedes cars.

Since March 2016, he has headed Daimler AG’s global IP management, including trademarks and design patents for Mercedes Benz, smart, Fuso, Freightliner and other Daimler brands.

Since 2011 Dietmar has been the Global Vice President for Intellectual Property for Royal DSM N.V., coordinating IP efforts in patents and trademarks in Europe, the US and China. He is also the director of the DSM IP Assets B.V. and, since 2013, a board member of the Patent Documentation Group (PDG).

Dietmar initially joined DSM in 2004 as an IP cluster leader in nutrition in Switzerland and later in materials in the Netherlands. In his 22 years of professional expertise he has also worked in the IP field for Henkel and Bayer, both in Germany and the US.


He holds a Dr. rer.nat. in Polymer Science from the University of Mainz in Germany and the Max-Planck-Institute of Polymer Research and has completed qualification as a European Patent Attorney and a US Patent Agent.

Peter specialized in the management of large IP portfolios and the transactional part of the IP value chain, particularly licensing, M&A and litigation. Peter is European and German Patent Attorney and in charge of IP at Infineon, previously Head of IP at Draexlmaier and Tetra Pak and Chief Licensing Counsel at Siemens AG.

As a frequent speaker at IP conferences on the development and management of in-house IP departments and a restless coach for R&D teams in 15+ countries throughout Europe, but also in the US, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and China, he contributes to the efficient creation and fair use of IP in a corporate and industry context.

Holger is co-founder of PatentSight. He is professor of technology and innovation management at the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management and visiting professor at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, as well as honorary professor at the Melbourne Business School.

He has published more than 50 papers in leading journals in the fields of strategy, innovation and intellectual property. Since his PhD dissertation about the use of patent data for the strategic planning of R&D (published in 1996) he has received multiple awards for his research.

Anthony (Tony) is Managing Director of Patinformatics, LLC. Patinformatics is an advisory firm specializing in patent analytics and landscaping to support decision making for technology based businesses. In addition to operating Patinformatics.

Tony is also an Adjunct Professor of IP Management and Markets at Illinois Institute of Technology teaching a course on patent analysis, and landscapes for strategic decision making.

Tony is an influential thought leader in the patent analysis space, recently wrote the Guidelines for the Preparation of Patent Landscape Reports for the World Intellectual Property Organization, has been named one of the Top 300 IP Strategists by IAM Magazine, and is the author of the popular Patinformatics blog.

Tony has written or contributed to IP related articles that have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Washington Post and more than a dozen additional sources.
